Troisième édition du cours de Master conjoint en Diplomatie publique mondiale et développement durable à l’Université LUISS de Rome pour les diplomates africains, avec le soutien du MAECI

3rd edition of the Joint Master in Global Public Diplomacy and Sustainable Development (March-October 2024)

After two successful editions, School of Government at Luiss Guido Carli and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) continue their partnership in the organization of a new edition of the Joint Master in Global Public Diplomacy and Sustainable Development. 

Thanks to the precious support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and through its combination of online and in-presence attendance, this Executive Master will provide 30 highly selected African diplomats with the following unique skills:

  • Critical understanding of key issues and concepts in world affairs and international relations with a focus on Africa;
  • Advanced understanding of the European Union institutions and policies, with a specific focus on the role of Italy;
  • Advanced knowledge of global and European policies and instruments associated with the UN Sustainable Development goals;
  • Multicultural analytical skills and critical thinking supported by advanced pedagogy;
  • Advanced experience in performing bilateral and multilateral working environments with increased confidence;
  • Advance their careers in joining a broad group of alumni across the world.

The Master is structured in the following three mandatory phases:

Phase 1: Online (March-June 2024) 

Managed by UNITAR, this phase involves the completion of the following online courses on multilateral diplomacy:

  • International Diplomacy:   Theory   and   Practice   (self- paced)
  • Public Diplomacy in a Multilateral World (self-paced)
  • Conference Diplomacy, and Drafting Resolutions
  • Negotiation Skills and Techniques
  • Effective Writing in Multilateral Diplomacy
  • Diplomatic Protocol and Etiquette
  • Digital Diplomacy
  • Economic Diplomacy and Security

Phase 2: Intensive in Presence School of Government – Luiss Guido Carli Rome (July 2024) 

Organised by Luiss School of Government, selected diplomats will be attending a mandatory three weeks intensive program in Rome focusing on:

  • Global and European Security Challanges
  • Europe and Africa: Current and Future Policy Developments
  • I taly and Africa: Current Policies and Future Developments
  • Management of Global and Regional Economic Security
  • Understanding and Managing Global Value Chains
  • Business Innovation and Economic Growth
  • Energy Policies and Management
  • Security Issues   Connected   to   European   and   Global Trade
  • Cybersecurity
  • Food Security and Sustainability
  • Leadership and Negotiation
  • Public Speaking

Phase 3: Final Project Work (August-October 2024) 

Participation to this master is free for the selected participants, inclusive travel and accommodation costs to attend the in-presence module in Rome during the first three weeks of July 2024.

Participation to this master is open to 30 diplomats matching the following selection criteria:

  • Full-time member of the diplomatic staff of one of the 54 African countries;
  • Holder of at least an undergraduate degree by the time of the application;
  • Under the age of 40 by the time of the application;
  • Knowledge of English with a minimum level of B2;
  • Strong professional motivation for attending this Master;
  • Currently being to posted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of their country or posted at one of the following institutions: African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Southern African Development Community (SADC)
